What drives moving costs up or down in Dubai, typical price bands by property size, and how to tell an honest quote from one that will be revised on the day.
The honest answer is that nobody can tell you the exact cost of your move over the phone, and anyone who does is guessing. What we can do is explain exactly what moves the number, so you can judge whether a quote you have been given is realistic.
What actually drives the price
Five things decide what a move costs in Dubai. Everything else is detail.
- Volume, how much there is to move, measured properly rather than guessed from a room count. This is the single biggest factor.
- Access at both ends, a tower with a booked service lift is quick; a fourth-floor walk-up with no lift can double the crew hours for identical contents.
- Packing, whether you pack yourself, we pack the fragile items only, or we pack everything.
- Distance, within Dubai is a minor cost. Dubai to Abu Dhabi or Fujairah adds fuel, tolls and crew hours.
- Extras, storage between handovers, dismantling built-in units, single heavy items like a piano or a safe.

These are realistic ranges for a within-Dubai move with a professional, licensed company, including materials, dismantling and reassembly. Treat them as orientation, not a quote, your survey produces the actual number.

Where cheap quotes get expensive
Dubai has a large number of unlicensed operators who quote low over the phone and add charges once your belongings are on the truck. The pattern is consistent and easy to recognise once you know it.
- A firm price given without seeing the job, or without you sending photos.
- Packing materials billed per box after the move rather than included in the quote.
- "Extra manpower" or "stairs charge" appearing on moving day.
- No written quote, just a number over WhatsApp with no breakdown.
- No trade licence number, and no company address you can verify.
The protection against all of this is boring and effective: insist on a free survey, then insist on an itemised written quote. A company that will not do both before taking your booking is telling you something.
How to get an accurate quote quickly
- Photograph every room, including storage cupboards, the balcony and the maid room if you have one.
- Note the floor, whether there is a service lift, and where a truck can park.
- Decide what is not moving, sold, donated or being thrown away, before the survey rather than after.
- Say upfront whether you need packing, storage or dismantling. Adding these later changes the price legitimately.
- Ask for the quote in writing, itemised, with the insurance cover stated on it.
